Welcome to Snacker USA Trailers

Grazing livestock on southern Ohio managed pasture has been our main business for the last 34 years. Beef, diary sheep and goats have all been part of the equation thru those years with sheep coming into the fold in 2007. Our pastures have always been fescue based: and milking 220 cows on fescue taught us the meaning of a love hate relationship.

At a height of 4-8 inches tall fescue is great and sheep and diary cattle will graze it. But once it gets taller than that, sheep start to not graze it, leading to lower performance in milking ewes and growing lambs. Among other problems the growth is too erratic. After trying different strategies to fix this issue, we came to the conclusion that supplementing was the answer. However, supplementing 350-400 ewes and 500-650 lambs on pasture was a problem due to the equipment options we have here in North America.

So we asked ourselves how can we supplement relatively cheap shelled corn to sheep on pasture? Well first we tried the creep feeding but headspace, mudholes from moving the feeders, and 900+ sheep and lambs trying to use the feeders as shade was not the answer.

Next we tried cake feeders. However, there were several problems we encountered with side discharges. It was almost impossible to not run over the lambs legs or the lambs themselves as they swarmed the buggy. The second problem was having the feeder permanently mounted on the ATV/UTV, as this took up valuable space that was needed.

In searching for other solutions we found a feeder called the Snacker. A mechanical drop feed trailer used around the world for supplementing sheep and cattle on pasture. It's design has been proven time and time again over the decades. For us it checked all the boxes: feed sheep on pasture where and when we wanted, no mudholes or destroyed pastures, and a quick and easy hitching attachment that would free up the ATV/UTV for other jobs. Best of all it's design keeps livestock safe because as soon they realize the feed drops from the back of the equipment they follow from behind, eliminating the rick of accidental injury to the animals.

However, there was one problem. The Snacker was not manufactured in the USA and the cost of purchase and importing was very expensive, making it cost prohibitive. So we decided to manufacture the Snacker right here in the USA. We have also added several other pieces of equipment that were previously not available in the U.S. as well. These have also added greatly to the efficiency and profitability of our farm. We are proud to introduce our Snackers, farm trailers, and hay rings that are now available for purchase in the U.S.

After two years of using the Snacker there have been no injuries to the livestock during feeding! There is an unexpected bonus of being able to identify animals in need of medical attention because of them gathering around the feed piles, therefore allowing for better visibility. It has also bumped our lambing percentage by 20% after the first use and greatly improved ewe and lamb condition, as well as health.

About Us

Starting as a family run sheep farm operation based in the hills of SE Ohio, Snacker USA was born of many years of experience and a realized need. After many years of pasture sheep production we had tried multiple ways to better improve our way of feeding while out in the field. Hours of research led to trying to find ways to maximize our feeding ability efficiently we had found certain equipment that is often used in major sheep producing countries that was not used in the USA. After some investigation about importing equipment such as snackers, trailers and hay feeders, it became quickly apparent that it was extremely cost prohibitive to do so. Out of necessity and a desire for better outcomes for other small livestock producers, we decided to design and manufacture our own equipment. Considering the great result we have had with our products we believe other farmers and producers would benefit using this equipment as well.
